Dear Visitor,
Welcome to our School.
Our School was founded in 2000, on the site of the pre-revolutionary British School, by the British and Dutch Embassies who had seen the need to provide educational facilities for the growing expatriate population. Although originally established for the children of British and Dutch expatriates, the School now has pupils of 32 nationalities. Our School caters for children between the ages of 4 to 13, i.e. from reception to Year 8 (Key Stages 1, 2 & 3). We also have a Nursery class.
Since its foundation the School has worked to maintain the highest of standards and has regular inspections by OFSTED inspectors from the UK. The School is a member of The European Council of International Schools/Council of International Schools and is committed to achieving its accreditation.
Our curriculum is drawn from a variety of sources: the National Curriculum of England and Wales; the International Primary Curriculum and, for our Dutch children, the N.O.B. All the children sit appropriate standardized tests including PIPS, and the tests set for Dutch children, studying overseas.
That is what we do, but what is the School really like?
We take tremendous pride in that our School is a very happy School in which children enjoy learning in a friendly and stimulating atmosphere. Our classes are limited in size (to about 15 pupils), which allows our teachers the opportunity to get to know their pupils’ skills, capabilities and abilities very well indeed. Our teaching staff is drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds, with substantial overseas experience. Our pupils, therefore, benefit from exposure to a wide variety of exciting and interesting teaching styles, as the teachers draw out the best from every child. Children join our classes but families join our School Community, which is something we all find of great importance in Tehran.
We are aware that very few of our children will complete all their primary years of education at the British School and so we try to ensure that all children are able to move on to their next school with the minimum of disruption and fuss.
If we can be of any help to parents considering moving to Tehran, please do not hesitate to contact us. Parents visiting Tehran deciding whether to bring their families to Tehran are most welcome to visit the School.
Please note that the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not allow us to accept children with Iranian nationality.
With best wishes.
Dr William Strath Headmaster
