British School Tehran

The curriculum of the British School, Tehran is drawn from a variety of sources. Literacy, Mathematics and Science are based on the requirements of the National Curriculum of England and Wales. Other subjects are taught through the medium of the International Primary Curriculum. In addition all pupils from Year 1 upwards are required to take an additional language.

• Dutch: Compulsory for all Dutch nationals.
• Farsi: For pupils in Years 1 to 4.
• French: For pupils in Years 5, 6 and 7

Progress in English, Mathematics and Science is monitored through statutory SAT's at the end of Key Stage 1 (Year2) and Key Stage (Year 6) which are administered by a UK based examination authority each summer term. Other year groups sit Optional SAT's, set by the above authority, but marked and administered in school.

Breadth is added to the academic programme through the medium of the International Primary Curriculum. The International Primary Curriculum is a multidisciplinary programme that lays great emphasis on the development and transferability of skills. Children following this programme work through a series of study units that develop skills and knowledge in History, Geography, Music and Art whilst drawing upon the skills developed in their English, Mathematics and Science classes.

Throughout the academic programme children are encouraged and, in some areas required, to develop their Information Technology skills.

Children studying at the British School, Tehran are set targets in line with the norms of the National Curriculum of England and Wales and other international bodies when appropriate. In the rare event of children being unable to reach these targets, parents will be advised as to the best course of action for their children. Placement and promotion of children from class to class is at the sole discretion of the school.

Special Needs. The school is unable to cater specifically for pupils with Special Needs. Should a service of this kind be required please contact the Headteacher.
